The medical mindset of disability as a failure of interventions and the societal uptake of that message is so pervasive and so damaging. I had to stop watching House after I was injured because I couldn’t deal with the constant invalidating messages towards me as a person with a visibly disabled body and the fact that the show’s writers couldn’t seem to imagine how I could find any joy in life (or even want to live occasionally). Blegh.
